CDC Foundation is providing grants to 30 arts and cultural organizations to build vaccine confidence throughout the United States.

To help CDC contribute to research about genetic changes in pneumococcal bacteria that impact the effectiveness of vaccination in developing countries. CDC will provide isolates from their Global Pneumococcal Strain Bank, sequence isolates from the Active Bacterial Core surveillance collaboration, and provide expert guidance on analysis and interpretation of the data.

To assess the acceptability, safety, feasibility and cost of a Typhoid Conjugate Vaccine (TCV) delivered as part of a ministry-led campaign in Harare, Zimbabwe. This evaluation will provide lessons learned and recommendations for future use of TCV in outbreak settings, and to inform typhoid control strategies.

To compare the immunogenicity of current vaccines for pneumococcal disease (native pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine) with a proposed new vaccination method (microsphere entrapped pneumococcal capsular polysaccharides delivered either subcutaneously or intranasally).

To conduct targeted assessments involving vaccine research and surveillance. The current studies range from a meningitis carriage study in Burkina Faso to measure the impact of the MenA vaccine, to rotavirus surveillance in Mozambique to look at vaccine effectiveness.

To support the introduction of a change in Burkina Faso’s infant pneumococcal vaccine schedule to include a booster dose and to evaluate the impact of the country’s capacity to control pneumococcal disease among children and adults.

To conduct an evaluation before and two years after the introduction of the Pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV) to study the direct and indirect impact of PCV introduction on vaccine-type pneumococcal carriage among healthy Indonesian children under five years of age.

To support a literature review of pneumococcal conjugate vaccines (PCV) dosing schedules and impact assessments to guide discussions about potential changes to current guidance on PCV schedules, an analysis needed to support the WHO Strategic Advisory Group of Experts on Immunization PCV Working Group.

To build capacity of community-based organizations to strengthen vaccine confidence and acceptance within target populations by supporting evidence-based science on vaccinations, vaccine-preventable diseases and the importance of on-time vaccination.

To evaluate the impact of HPV vaccine and the persistence of HPV antibody among HPV-vaccinated women living with HIV in Botswana.
